Renewable Energy

The UK faces significant hurdles in scaling up renewable energy to meet its ambitious climate and energy policy targets, including net zero by 2050 and the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.

Annual new capacity additions remain modest, and far below the pace needed to meet the Clean Power Action Plan’s goal. Technologies such as onshore wind provide cost-effective solutions but its deployment is constrained.

While recent policy shifts aim to streamline approvals and encourage repowering of older sites, the gap between ambition and delivery remains significant. Without faster deployment and broader public and political support, onshore wind may fall short of its potential contribution to the UK’s clean energy transition.

Identifying the key issues and opportunities at site identification and feasibility stage is vital to designing the Planning approach.
